Scott, Amundsen and Shackleton- who were heroic blunderers and who were consummate explorers? We look at the problems that were encountered and the methods which were used to survive and succeed in the hostile environment of Antarctica. Crucial to the choices of methods were the the personalities of the explorers, their social milieu and the culture and attitudes prevalent in their native countries.
