Race for the South Pole


Scott, Amundsen and Shackleton- who were heroic blunderers and who were consummate explorers? We look at the problems that were encountered and the methods which were used to survive and succeed in the hostile environment of Antarctica. Crucial to the choices of methods were the the personalities of the explorers, their social milieu and the culture and attitudes prevalent  in their native countries. We also investigate the traditions of polar explorations which influenced the adventurers. This is a chance to discuss your attitude to these heroes and to learn more about them.
