The Balkans was, and still is, an odd corner of the world of which we, in Britain, know little. The area has attracted some interesting and eccentric travellers who are able to offer their own, unique perspective. We will explore the life and poetry of Byron , the art and writing of Edward Lear, the epic masterpiece of Rebecca West which, after 70 years, remains a key text on the area and the travels of Edith Durham, a woman little know in Britain but revered in Albania.
